Festivals
This year the music department was given the opportunity to compete in a range of music competitions where, after a lot of practice and hard work we achieved outstanding results. We achieved 1st place for Band and Woodwind Group categories at Holywood Festival and 3rd place for the Choir. The Concert Band played a medley from ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and we commended on their excellent drummer, Stephen Sykes. The Senior Woodwind Group played ‘Jazz Gavotte’ by Fairhead. We also did extremely well at Ballymena Festival where we gained first prize for the following three categories: Junior Woodwind Quartet who played ‘Cruella deVille’; the Concert Band who played ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’ and the Senior Brass Group who played ‘Bugler’s Holiday’. Sadly due to an administrative error we were unable to compete in Portadown Festival but the successes we achieved points to a promising year next year.
