Report for 2010/11
The PTA had another successful year in 2010/11. Their first event was the Junior Halloween Disco held in the College assembly hall. This event was well attended by pupils in Years 8-10 and as the previous year had been such a success we decided to make the event a Fancy Dress again with many pupils (and some staff and parents) deciding to enter into the spirit by dressing up. Prizes were awarded for the best boy and girl costumes and the most original costume. Refreshments were available with a concoction called ‘Witches Brew’ proving very popular.
The College Musical evenings in December and the Open Evenings in January are important events in the College calendar and are always well supported by the PTA who provide tea and refreshments in the Restaurant.
In February the PTA held the second of their traditional Junior Discos – this one for Valentine’s Day. Again there was a good turnout of pupils in Years 8-10 who thoroughly enjoyed the event with the ‘Love Potion’ proving to be a hit. But what really proved popular was the chance for pupils to purchase red roses which were then distributed to unwitting recipients on behalf of their secret Valentine! The PTA would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of staff who assist with the discos – your help and supervision is greatly appreciated.
This year the PTA held a Pub Quiz which was held at the end of March at the Ivanhoe Hotel. This was a very successful evening with many teams, including parents, staff and senior pupils, competing for the chance to be crowned the winners. On the night there was also the opportunity to purchase ballot tickets for what can only be described as a vast array of prizes donated by PTA members. Once again a profitable evening.
The final event which the PTA were involved in this year was the Year 8 Induction Evening held in June. At this event the PTA provided refreshments and were on hand to meet and talk to new parents and to sign up new members.
The PTA is very pleased to announce that they are now members of the National Association of Parent Teachers’ Associations and have obtained charitable status with HM Revenue and Customs. Both of these developments will bring added benefits to both the PTA and the College.
The PTA is well supported but they are always on the look out for new members. . Anyone who is interested in joining is welcome. Further information can be obtained at wcbpta@hotmail.co.uk
The PTA has a very important role of providing additional funds for the College. This would not be possible without support. The PTA would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents, staff and prefects who have helped out with the various events throughout the year. In particular they would like to thank the staff who faithfully assist at the discos and our two caretakers – Mr Sam Pedlow and Mr Robert Thompson – who are only too willing to help out at any time.
